The Feast of Our Lady of Peňafrancia normally celebrates every third Saturday of September in Naga City, Bicol. It commemorates the honor of the Patroness of the whole Bicol Region. It is one of the country’s greatest display of religious devotion that unites Filipinos of all ages and from all over the world in devoutness to their ‘Ina’ ( A local term for mother). This festival Is a week long events that includes processions, civic and military parades, expo, trade fares , Miss Bicolandia Coronation and other activities. There are two highlights of this festival, the translacion and the fluvial parade. The translacion is the transferring of the miraculous Image of the Virgin, Our Lady of Peňafrancia and the Divino Rostro to the Metropolitan Cathedral of Naga City for a Novena and Holy Masses which normally the sign of the start of the festival.
The Fluvial Procession is the last religious event of this festivity where the Image of the Our Lady Peňafrancia will be transferred from the Metropolitan Cathedral to the Basilica Minore where the image is originally placed. It was jam packed of almost 300,000 devotees and pilgrims who wants to see and touch the image during the procession. It was a great experience to be a part of this event here in Naga City. The hospitality and the kindness from all Bicolanos that I received was second to none.
